NDLEA seizes 312kg illicit drugs in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized 331.65kg of banned drugs from various suspects in the state from January to date.

Speaking to newsmen in Uyo yesterday, the state’s Commander of the agency, Mrs. Josephine Obi, said the seized drugs include 321kg of cannabis sativa, four grammes of cocaine and 11.9kg of heroine.

She said that 19 suspects made up of 14 males and five females were arrested within the period while three suspects had remained at large, adding that “the agency has intensified efforts to arrest them. ”

Obi said “the arrests were made possible as a result of collaborative efforts in intelligence sharing between the state command and the headquarters of the agency.

“The suspects include Umoh Isaac who was arrested by the command along Abak-Ikot Ekpene Road with 36 bags of cannabis sativa weighing 293.8kg.

“The suspect disguised the drugs as a bus load of crates of beer all the way from Aba to distribute to his customers in Akwa Ibom.” (NAN)
